Former EastEnders actress Jo Joyner – who played Tanya Branning for seven consecutive years – has revealed she doesn’t take her role in the soap for granted.

Joyner says she is aware she may not always have the chance to return, although would like the door to remain open.

When asked whether or not it’s nice to know she can always return as Tanya, the actress explained that may not always be the case.

Speaking to Inside Soap, she said: “It’s not like I think, ‘That’s on the back burner, it’ll always be there’ – you can’t take it for granted.

“There could be a new producer next week who doesn’t know me from Adam, and thinks that what Abi needs right now is a dead mum! But on an acting level, I really buzz when working with Jake Wood [Max] – and it’s a lovely thing to be part of.”

Joyner played Tanya from 2006 until 2013, and returned for a guest stint for EastEnders’ 30th Anniversary celebrations, where she made the infamous slip up ‘How’s Adam?’
