Declan Bennett is to leave his role as Charlie Cotton later this year, an EastEnders spokesperson has confirmed.
Bennett was spotted filming on-location at a train station not far from the EastEnders set with co-star Rita Simons, who plays Roxy Mitchell.
An EastEnders spokesperson told Digital Spy: “We can confirm that Declan Bennett will be leaving EastEnders. We wish him all the best for the future.”
EastEnders Spy understands that soap bosses decided to write out Charlie.
Bennett – who is also a singer – made his first appearance in EastEnders in March 2014 and since then has been involved in various storylines such as tricking Dot into believing Nick was dead and cheating on his wife whilst she lay in a coma.
EastEnders is expected to air these scenes in early Autumn.
