EastEnders is a Christmas tradition like brussel sprouts and mistletoe. It’s a time of year when EastEnders is expected to be on the top of its game and 2015 is no different. Everyone remembers at least one classic Christmas whether it be Den serving Angie with the divorce papers, Jamie Mitchell dying as Little Mo Slater & Billy Mitchell married or the reveal of Stacey and Max’s affair. The death rate also rockets around the Christmas fortnight but who’ll meet their maker this year? Forget about Dame Maggie Smith over at Downton and tune into EastEnders for another dose of family strife, tragedy and heartache. Would we have it any other way?
BOBBY STRIKES AGAIN?
Bobby Beale is one to watch this Christmas. Fresh from shoving his frumpy stepmum, Jane, down the stairs, Bobby has a new victim in his sight. Bobby has struggled to deal with his anger recently and Christmas will see him put someone else’s life in danger. Certain people may regret keeping schtum for him and letting an innocent man go to prison. Will Bobby claim another victim?
HUBBARDS VS MITCHELLS
This feud has been bubbling away in recent weeks. We learned that Phil’s dad, Eric, killed Vincent’s dad, Henry, or at least that is what Claudette claims. This feud will continue to hot up and with a Christmas Day death promised, could a Hubbard or Mitchell pay the ultimate price? Or maybe someone else will get caught in the crossfire? This is a story that looks to be about to take a very dark turn.
Stacey gives birth this Christmas and rumour has it that the truth will be revealed about the baby’s paternity. This is the start of a big new story for Stacey, who as well as finding out the truth about the mysterious key will have to deal with her mental health issues again in the wake of her baby’s birth. This is what EastEnders does best; character-driven, gritty drama.
KAT & ALFIE
Kat and Alfie arrive back to Walford this Christmas. (although they will not be the only returns) With Kat set to find out she gave birth to a son she never knew existed and Alfie harbouring his brain tumour secret, this will lead two of the show’s best loved characters on a journey to Ireland to star in their own spin-off but not before they wreak havoc on the Square once more.
Shirley will finally see her son, Dean’s, true colours this Christmas when she catches him attempting to rape Roxy Mitchell. Shirley has been in denial about her son’s true nature since it was revealed what he did to Linda last Christmas. As Dean becomes exiled from his family, he will plan revenge on the Carters. What better venue than the New Year’s Day wedding?
DEAN WICKS’ EXIT
It’s also a climactic Christmas for the Carters as the rape storyline reaches what promises to be a satisfying conclusion. Mick and Linda are due to marry on New Year’s Day but weddings don’t tend to run smoothly in soapland. Where would the fun be in that? Mick Carter will be putting those swimming lessons to good use but will he save his rapist brother and will Linda finally get justice?
You’re going to have to watch LIVE as there are some massive shocks that will have everybody talking about the show. Much like EastEnders’ Live Week back in February, there are surprises that will make you gasp. The best writers and directors are all involved as well as most of the cast. They’re pulling out all the stops and the best bit is that the ripples effect will be felt well into 2016.
CHRISTMAS DAY DEATH
One of the surprises will be that someone will die on Christmas Day. Their identity is being kept under wraps but that won’t stop us guessing for the next few weeks. With Killer Bobby on the loose and the Hubbards revenge on the Mitchells taking centre stage, it’s anyone’s guess which character may meet their maker. James Payne has written many memorable deaths; Dennis Rickman, Stella Crawford, Jase Dyer and Emma Summerhayes. We won’t have long to grieve as there’s another tear-jerking fatal exit in January.
