As announced last week, the character Johnny Carter is to return to Albert Square this year – with a new actor in the role.
After a rigorous casting process, bosses have chosen ‘Call The Midwife’ star Ted Reilly to play Danny Dyer’s on-screen-son.
Reilly has appeared in various TV Shows, such as the aforementioned Call The Midwife, Law & Order: UK, Casualty and Grantchester.

The popular character left Walford in December 2014 after a meer year on the Square. The previous actor, Sam Strike, gained media praise for his coming out scenes.
A show spokesperson explained: “There are so many more stories that we wanted to tell with Johnny, so we felt that the time was right to unite the Carter family again.
“The Carter family quickly became one of EastEnders‘s most iconic families and there are lots of stories planned for them, but it was felt it would be a shame if those stories had to be told without Johnny’s involvement.”
