Former EastEnders star Sid Owen, who played Ricky Butcher on-and-off for twenty four years until 2012, is hoping his new deal with the BBC will give him a chance to reprise his role.
Owen, who is currently appearing as a contestant on this year’s Celebrity Masterchef, revealed he has a brand new contract with the BBC, saying: “I’ve got a contract with the BBC. I can’t really say too much about what I’ve got on but I’d 100% go back to EastEnders – it’s part of my life.
“I’ve done 28 years on and off and 15,000 episodes. Ricky is not dead yet – I should go back one day and finish the storyline or go back for a length of time.”Ricky departed Walford in January 2012 after a brief fling with Mandy Salter caused his marriage to Bianca to break down. However, he did make a brief return in July of the same year for his sister Janine’s wedding to Michael Moon.
The last viewers heard of Ricky was in August last year, when his son Liam Butcher left Albert Square with girlfriend Cindy Williams to move to Germany, where Ricky was residing.
