Samantha Womack, who has played the role of Ronnie Mitchell in EastEnders since 2007, will leave the role next year.
The BBC have confirmed today that Samantha Womack will be bowing out of the show after new executive producer, Sean O’Connor, offered her an exit storyline.
The character’s exit storyline is thought to be rather explosive after an insider has revealed that Womack jumped at the chance to go out with a bang.
Another source added, “It was felt that with everything Ronnie has been through over the past nine years, it is now time to rest the character. She already has a few projects lined up so she won’t be off screen for long.”
One other insider added, “Samantha has created an iconic character in Ronnie Mitchell. However, she was recently offered a big storyline which she happily accepted that leads to Ronnie departing Walford. We wish Samantha all the best for the future.”
Ronnie will remain in the show until next year, where viewers will then see an explosive storyline take place, culminating with a dramatic exit for the character.
