Danny-Boy Hatchard, who has played Lee Carter since 2014, is to leave the soap later this year, according to The Sun.

Since his arrival, Lee has been involved in numerous storylines and, most recently, has been battling depression.

The character is currently engaged to Whitney Dean – but with his exit looming, will they ever get their happy-ever-after?

Details of Lee’s exit are being kept under wraps for now – will he be going out in style, in a black cab, or even in a coffin? Viewers will have to wait and see…

An EastEnders spokesman said: “Danny-Boy has been a great addition to the cast and we wish him all the best for the future.”

A BBC source told the tabloid paper: “This was a tough decision but sometimes to create big storylines characters need to come and go. Danny-Boy is a dedicated actor and a popular cast member, and as part of the Carter family, no one should rule out a return.”

Will you be sad to see Lee go? Let us know in the comments section below. Five other regular characters, excluding Lee, are also set to leave. To see the full list, visit our dedicated Cast Changes page.

EastEnders continues Monday at 8pm on BBC One.

Honestly I don’t want to sound rude because I’m sure Sean O Connor works very hard within these storey lines but Eastenders really isn’t what it use to be when Dominic Tredwell-Collins was there, Sean isn’t giving the characters a chance to grow! Look at the likes of Dot Brainning, that character has had chance to grow and experience the square properly! I’ve been reading quite a lot of the comments and the reaction to Lee Carter leaving the square and a lot of them are supportive towards Danny-boy Hartchard , wishing him the very best for the future but are really negative towards Lee Carter! A lot are saying “what is eastenders now” “there will be no one left on eastenders”, I think I’ve made my point!
