Riley Carter-Millington, who plays Kyle Slater, is set to leave EastEnders after just one year, it has been revealed.
Carter-Millington made television history in the UK by becoming the first transgender actor to play a trans character and, whilst he’s been around almost a year, he was only ever signed up for six months initially.
After impressing soap bosses, his contract was extended by another 6 months.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, the actor said: ‘When I landed a 6 month contract at EastEnders it was a dream come true. For that to be extended to a year was something I never expected. However, as the time comes for Kyle to depart Walford I am looking forward to taking on new roles and who knows, Kyle may find his way back to Walford one day.’
An EastEnders spokesperson said: “We can confirm Riley is leaving EastEnders and wish him all the best for the future.”
Whilst the circumstances of Kyle’s exit are being kept under wraps for now, the door is expected to remain open for the character, should producers opt for a return at a later date.
EastEnders continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC One HD.
