After a spell of normality in Walford, the drama looks set to kick off in the coming weeks, as Jack Branning (played by Scott Maslen) calls a hitman on his rival – the recently returned Charlie Cotton (Declan Bennett).
Stuck in the middle of the messy feud is Matthew Mitchell Cotton – son of Charlie and the late Ronnie Mitchell. Since Ronnie’s untimely death, Matthew has been left solely in Jack’s care.
However, when Charlie caught wind that Ronnie had died and his son was being brought up by another man, he was having none of it. He travelled from his new home in Ireland back to the Square determined to gain custody of his son.
And things aren’t looking too good for Jack. The odds are very much in Charlie’s favour, leading Jack to call for desperate measures.
In scenes recently aired on BBC One, Jack was heard speaking on the phone, presumably calling a hitman: “Listen. I’ve got a bit of a problem. I need to arrange to get rid of someone. Permanently.”
Whether or not Jack will actually go through his plan remains to be seen. But, with Declan Bennett reportedly only back for a guest stint, this feud could surely only end two ways?
EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
