EastEnders is about to lose two more of their actresses later this year, as tabloid reports have revealed that sisters Abi and Lauren, played by Lorna Fitzgerald and Jacquline Jossa respectively, are to leave the show.
Fitzgerald has appeared in the show for over eleven years, playing the character since her introduction. Whilst Jossa has played Lauren for seven years, taking over from previous actress Madeline Duggan.
A source told The Sun that the decision is part of the show’s new acting executive producer’s plans for a big shake-up, saying : “He has form for creating huge plots, so they’re in safe hands over their departure. It will be one of the biggest on-screen moments of the year.
“Sometimes a great storyline comes at the cost of losing some characters. The cast will be sorry to see them go.”
Abi is currently pregnant with recently deceased Steven Beale’s baby, whilst Lauren is set to turn to alcohol in the coming days following her finance’s death.
Confirming the exits, a show spokesperson said: “We can confirm Jacqueline and Lorna will be leaving. They have been wonderful to work with and we wish them all the best for the future.”
Their exits are suspected to be tied into this year’s Christmas episodes.
