Michelle Fowler is set to depart Albert Square once again in the coming weeks as Jenna Russell has opted to leave EastEnders.
The legendary character – who first appeared in the very first episode of the soap in 1985, then played by Sue Tully – is leaving Walford yet again.
Russell had perhaps one of the most difficult jobs in the show’s history – stepping into the shoes of the already iconic Michelle and giving her own spin to the character.
Since her return, Michelle’s storylines have included a relationship with her 17 year-old American student Preston, a love triangle with her niece Bex Fowler, and being stalked by newcomer Tom.
An EastEnders spokesperson said: “Jenna is a terrific actress who has loved her time on the show playing Michelle and it was a mutual decision to write the character out. We wish Jenna all the best for the future.
Denying rumours she was axed, Russell tweeted: “Just for clarity, I wasn’t ‘axed’, just fancied doing something else. Nothing else.”
EastEnders airs Michelle’s exit this Summer.
