EastEnders viewers were overjoyed, to say the least, at the triumphant return of Kat Slater, played by Jessie Wallace, after her return from the ‘dead’ on Thursday.
Kat’s nan Mo Harris returned to Walford with the devastating news that Kat had died in a tragic accident at sea, and when Stacey informed her they couldn’t fork out the money for a funeral, the locals rallied together to give her a proper send off – unbeknownst to Kat.
Returning in Thursday’s second episode, Kat was left gobsmacked to see she’d arrived outside her own wake. Pushing for answers, it soon became clear to Kat what had happened.
EastEnders managed to reach #1 trending on Twitter, where it remained for several hours after broadcast, and attracted a 31% audience share.
Many viewers were left praising the comedic timing of the episode and the additional return of Gillian Wright, who plays Jean.
Not only did Mo, Kat and Jean return — behind the scenes Tony Jordan, who wrote for EastEnders from 1989 to 2008, also returned to pen the episode. He was responsible for writing some of the Slater families most iconic moments.
EastEnders continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
